Alright people, a true test of self-control and discipline is approaching. First thing tomorrow, you have a choice. Do you run to Fitness 19 at 8am and get one last workout in before I light up the grill and my calorie count? The answer should be yes. No matter what lies ahead, starting your day off with a trip to the gym is so beneficial on any given day. However, it is even more beneficial on a day like the 4th of July.

Your day at the gym does not have to be crazy. You could simply stretch for 10-15 minutes, then hop on some cardio equipment for another 25-30 then be on your way. The fact that you came in and put in an honest effort to stay true to your regiment is only part of the bigger picture. Now your body and all its processes are fired up and you are ready to take on the day.

The second phase of your day is having a little bit of self-control and respect for yourself. Let’s be honest, it is hard to not take a bite or five of grandma’s potato salad; you’ll just have to do some extra mountain climbers to work that off later. Nevertheless, there is a big difference from having a little bit of everything to having a lot a bit of everything. Burgers; make it a single. Hotdogs; keep the chili off it. Beer; keep it light or at a minimum. You get the point. The most important thing is to know your body. If you go beast mode in the gym before your day gets started, you most likely earned that extra scoop of mac n cheese.

As our calorie count ascends faster than the fireworks we will spectate tomorrow, remember to not eat and/or drink to excess. Additionally, do not stand around your aunt/uncle who asks why you are single or how’s work at every party; you don’t need that added stress. Have fun. Be safe. And your Fitness 19 family will see you on Friday as we all work off that extra red, white, and blue cupcake we snuck in before the end of the night. Happy 4th!
